On a recent trip to NYC, I knew that I would have some time to kill before flying out of Long Island. I found this Museum of Moving Image to visit in Queens. It has to be my all-time favorite museum experience so far. The building and rooms themselves were ultra modern and cool which was an instant delight. The museum has a wide range of subjects, from nineteenth century optical toys to the latest in digital art. It explores every phase of the production, promotion, and exhibition of moving images.
What I found most engaging were the interactive exhibitions. At one station, you can create your own stop-motion animation and email it to yourself. At another station, you can add sound effects to a movie scene, making it realistic or comical. And at yet another station, you can choose the music for a movie scene. The interactive exhibits make the information experiential and fun.
If you go to NYC and want to visit a museum—I highly recommend this one!
