Here are some of my favorite DIY ways to organize your cords behind your desk or electronics. 1. binder clips 2. foam tubing 3. toilet paper rolls 4. labels 5. rain gutter tray When I saw the rain gutter tray—I knew I had to do this for my desk cords. It’s a fairly easy project. Here is how it came out. Even though, because of the window, my tray had to be installed lower—from a normal view, you can no longer see cords under my desk!
Supplies you will need for this project:
- rain gutter ($6)
- gutter brackets ($10)
- end caps (if desired) ($7)
- hacksaw or ask Home Depot’s plumbing department to cut it to size
- sandpaper if you need to sand any rough edges
- screws (if they don’t come with the brackets)
- screw driver or socket wrench (whatever’s appropriate to attach the brackets to the wall)
- tape measure
- level
- marking pencil
- stud finder (if the total of all of your cords and surge protectors are weighty, you will need to be sure to attach the brackets to studs)
You can find a great tutorial here. BONUS: With any left-over rain gutter, you could put up a rain gutter bookshelf.
This is so necessary! Cords always get so messy esp in my laptop bag! thank you for thinking to post about cord organization. This is great.
Amber, I hadn’t even thought about it using these for my laptop bag, but the foam tubing (or toilet paper rolls) would work great! Can’t wait to try it out!
